Ask Us Anything! Spring 2022 Edition

Whenever we ask the R|M community for questions, they range from lighthearted and practical to thought-provoking and theological, which makes the AUA show something special. In this one-hour conversation, Emily and Laura discuss how they’ve applied the gospel to their own lives as they answer listeners’ questions. In this episode, you’ll hear what they’ve learned in marriage and motherhood over the years, how they deal with mom jealousy and comparison, how they disciple their children with disabilities, their favorite life hacks, and more. As you listen, we hope you don’t feel pressure to do life just like them, but that you see the beauty of the gospel in motherhood as we grow and gain the perspective of time.

Questions:

  • What is one hack that has changed your life?

  • Are you speaking at any conferences soon / will you ever host a R|M conference?

  • What time do you wake up in the morning and go to bed at night?

  • How have you changed as you’ve gotten older and moved on to a later family stage?

  • Can you share about mom comparison / jealousy particularly among church moms because we see each other so often and see each other’s kids grow up?

  • How do you encourage your kids to have godly friendships, and what role should parents play in that?

  • What were the top three lessons you learned in your first five years of marriage?

  • How do you talk to your kids about some of the broken sides of life?

  • Do you have any specific activities or phrases you use to disciple your kids who have disabilities?

  • What is your after-school routine with your kids? How do you reconnect with them?

R|M Apply Questions:

  • Have you ever been tempted to compare yourself to another mom based on a singular interaction? How would it change your perspective to view these interactions as part of a bigger story the Lord is weaving together (for you, a fellow mom, and your respective kids)?

  • Consider the role that godly friendships play in yours and your children’s lives, and think through a few practical ways to cultivate those friendships that point you to Christ.

  • If you’re married, what expectations did you have going into marriage that haven’t been met? Whether you’re a newlywed or have been married for decades, consider a few ways you and your husband are sanctifying one another through the challenges of marriage.*

  • As you consider ways to weave essential truths about God into your kids’ everyday lives, think of a phrase or two that you could write down and place in a visible area (such as a chalkboard or a piece of paper on the refrigerator). See if your kids can memorize and recite this phrase either at bedtime, on the way to school, or during another time that works best for your family!

*This application question is intended to address the normal strains in a Christian marriage, but we know that some of you may be facing deeper challenges. If you are struggling with how to move forward in your marriage, please reach out to a trusted friend, mentor, pastor, or counselor.
