What We’re Still Talking About 02: Interruptions

Have you ever hoped your day would go according to plan? Maybe it’s simply getting a moment to unload the dishwasher without a sibling squabble, or finally having hours on the calendar to finish that work project. Maybe your whole motherhood journey hasn’t gone the way you dreamed or expected. In this episode, Emily and Laura walk through a few questions we can ask ourselves as we grapple with inevitable interruptions. As we remember that God is Lord over our days and we willingly receive his plans, we can also trust that what he gives us is ultimately for our good.

R|M Apply Questions:

  • Reflect on your past few days and identify some of the ways you’ve been irritated or upset by a change in plans. Walk through some of the questions Emily and Laura outlined in today’s episode:

    • What did I think this was going to be like?

    • What did I think I had a right to?

    • What type of pressure was I putting on this?

    • Was I here to serve or be served?

  • Do you have margin in your schedule right now to “be available?” Spend some time in prayer asking that God would give you eyes to see where you can make room in your days to intentionally meet the needs of those around you.*

  • Read Mark 10:45. During Jesus’ time on earth, he prioritized serving others. When you think about your days, are you planning them with a heart to serve or be served? What would it look like to serve others by the strength of the Holy Spirit? (Remember there is grace for you here, mom!)

  • At the end of the show, Emily leaves us with this question: Do interruptions really exist, or is it just a matter of our perspective? What would it look like for you to receive every “interruption” as a gift from the Lord?

*We understand some of you may be in seasons where you don’t have the luxury of rearranging your schedules or making time to be fully available outside of your responsibilities. We hope this model of prayer is still an encouragement to you, trusting that the Lord sustains us in every season.
