Ep. 163 || Change is a Good Thing, Part 1

As you make the meals, change the diapers, settle the arguments, and fold the laundry day after day, do you ever wonder if any of it really matters? With so many immediate needs in front of us, it can be easy to lose sight of our eternal purpose. In this episode, Emily and Laura discuss some simple (yet profound) truths that help clarify our destination and goal as believers in Christ. When we remember that we’re being conformed to the image of Jesus and one day we’ll dwell with him for eternity, we can hold things loosely in this life and embrace our role as servants doing the Master’s work—even if it’s the same work day after day.

R|M Apply Questions:

  1. What aspects of life tend to make you question where you’re headed and whether all of your daily work and service matter?

  2. Being conformed to the image of Christ and dwelling with him for eternity means first committing our lives to Christ. Have you repented of your sin and trusted Christ for salvation? If not, cry out to the Lord and he will save you! If you’re already walking with him, think of another mom you know who isn’t on this journey. How could you share the hope of Christ with her?

  3. Think about the two categories from Revelation 21—eternal things (God, his word, and his people) and former things (everything else, including death, tears, and pain). Are you orienting your life around eternal things or former things? What might it look like for you to invest more in eternal things?

  4. Being a mom often means pouring ourselves out to serve others. How might remembering that Jesus took the form of a servant give you encouragement and purpose as you serve your family?

  5. When we have eternity with God to look forward to, we can give it all in this life for the sake of Christ. What are you holding onto too tightly in this life? What might it look like for you to give it all for the sake of Christ?
