Abundance 03: I Don’t Have Enough Wisdom—An Interview with Glenna Marshall

Each day is filled with decisions and we’re anxious to make the right ones. We live in a world where information is right at our fingertips—but as moms, we need something deeper and never-changing. Even when knowledge is helpful, no amount of Internet searching will ultimately give us God’s direction for our family. For that, we need godly wisdom—so where do we find it? In this episode, Emily chats with author and mom, Glenna Marshall, on how we can seek wisdom from the Lord through Scripture, prayer, and wise counsel.  While we don’t get a personalized playbook for the life before us, God in his gracious provision gives us what we need through his Word. When we seek wisdom from the One who knows all and sees all, he provides more than we could ever dream to ask.

Glenna Marshall is a pastor’s wife and mother of two sons. She is the author of The Promise is His Presence, Everyday Faithfulness, and Memorizing Scripture. She writes regularly at GlennaMarshall.com on biblical literacy, suffering, and the faithfulness of God. She is a member of Grace Bible Fellowship in Sikeston, Missouri.

R|M Apply Questions:

  • What areas of life leave you desperate for wisdom right now? Write them down and spend time in prayer over each area, asking the Lord to give you direction and wise counsel.

  • Read James 1:5-7. Are you feeling “tossed by the waves” in this current season? Spend some time thinking about where you tend to look for advice and information. How does this compare to your time spent in God’s Word? (Psst! Our thing is grace, not guilt—be honest with yourself and trust the Lord is refining you day by day!)

  • Consider starting a prayer journal—if it feels overwhelming to write down every prayer, select one or two areas of motherhood heavy on your heart right now and journal through those.

    • Over time, read through how these prayers have changed as you’ve brought them before the Lord and asked for wisdom. Let these be a testament of his grace and love for you!

  • Read 2 Timothy 3:16-17. List some ways to intentionally set your mind on Scripture throughout the day. (We have lots of resources on this here if it sparks any thoughts, but feel free to make this your own!)
