Abundance 05: In Your Weakness, Look to Christ—An Interview with Amy Gannett

Here’s something you won’t hear too often around social media, but we’ll say it because we love you: mom, you are NOT enough. And that’s a good thing! As moms, we feel the tug-and-pull of wading through mundane moments alongside the high calling and immense privilege of raising children God has given us. If you’ve ever wondered how you’re supposed to “do it all” in motherhood, this show is for you. In it, Emily chats with writer and Bible teacher, Amy Gannett, on what Scripture says about Christ’s loving sufficiency in all things. Take a deep breath, mom: for everything you lack today, Jesus stands before you and fills in the gap. If he didn’t abandon you at the cross, why would he now?

Amy Gannett is a writer and Bible teacher passionate about equipping Christians to study the Bible through The Bible Study Schoolhouse. She is also the founder of Tiny Theologians, a line of discipleship tools for children. Amy and her husband, Austin, have two sweet girls and are church planters in eastern North Carolina. You can read more on her blog and follow her on Instagram.

R|M Apply Questions:

  • What areas do you feel like you’re lacking in motherhood? (Psst! This can be broad, like time or patience, or specific, like not having enough time to spend with your kids or wishing you were more organized getting out the door in the morning!)

    • Consider journaling through these and what your responses are when you feel weakness in these areas.

  • Read 2 Corinthians 3:4-6. Do you believe that Christ makes you sufficient for all that he calls you to? What makes this hard to hold onto in the everyday moments of motherhood?

  • In the show, Amy talks about our tendency to wait between sinning and seeking repentance. Are you tempted to try to make up for your weaknesses first without relying on Christ?

    • Read 2 Corinthians 12:7-9. How does Paul counsel us to move forward when we see and experience the “thorn in our flesh”?

  • Spend some time in prayer that the Holy Spirit will guide you in real moments of seeing and experiencing your weakness, and bringing those requests to God.
