Ep. 94 || Freedom in Education Choices: An Interview with Melissa Kruger on Private Schooling, Part 2

Deciding how to educate your child can be overwhelming, but momma, there is freedom—because of the gospel— in our education methods. In this episode, Laura and Emily interview Melissa Kruger, a wife, mom, and writer, on her family’s decision to educate their children through the private system. No matter where we school our children, our responsibility remains to create a gospel-culture in our homes and to trust God’s good work in our children’s lives. School is important, but we are the biggest influencers in our children’s education.

R|M Apply Questions:

  1. Sometimes, we need to take things year-by-year, child-by-child, and situation-by-situation. We can only make the best decision possible by using the information available to us, which means that we might change our minds as we move through the schooling years. What frees you from feeling guilt or anxiety about making and changing your decision?

  2. We are not saved by our schooling choices and neither are our children. What might your anxieties, fears, worries, or very strong opinions reveal about the importance you’re giving to this decision?

  3. We have the biggest influence on our children, which means we have a unique responsibility and gift to create a culture in our homes that points to our love and obedience of God. What habits can you build into your daily rhythm to teach your children about the gospel and living biblically?

  4. Ultimately, God is sovereign over everything that happens in our children’s lives. They may preach the gospel in the halls of public school, quietly learn theology in the private school, or be equipped at the kitchen table. You might even have a kiddo doing every one of these depending on the best fit for them! How does focusing on God’s character—as loving, sovereign, and faithful—help shape your schooling choices?
